Too many times I see business owners especially budding entrepreneurs focusing on menial $10/hr tasks instead of doing whats most important to drive their business.
As a business owner that means you want to grow your business and you should start by delegating out the tasks that you don’t want to do and the ones that may be better handled by someone else.
here is my top five list of things you should delegate:
- Bookkeeping and accounting
Most people (except for CPAs) don’t really enjoy this part of their business and it is quite a time suck. Delegate it. Find a strong person to have in your office or connect with one of the great firms that’s out there – they will always do a better job than you or I could.
- Tech Related things
Everything tech related breaks, always, no matter what. Get someone on your side that can be there to help you when it does. Hell it could be the neighbor from down the street who is young but loves computers, put him on call and pay him when things break, you will thank me later.
- General Maintenance
If you have a building or vehicles the last thing you should do is waste time keeping them in good shape, but you should always have them well maintained. They will last longer and you will have less headaches. Hire a landscaper, handyman, and mechanic to have ready when things need to be looked at.
- Running Errands
Even though this may seem fun sometimes, it takes away from what is the most important, growing your business. If you had someone as an admin who could answer phones and run errands you could save many precious hours every week
Most people who have a business have no idea how to properly market – and this could make or break your business. Even though getting referrals and word of mouth may sustain your business it will never grow to be huge unless you have a sure fire way to bring leads and customers in the door. A great man once said “If you don’t have a system where you pay to get leads and clients in the doors you don’t have a business – you have a hobby”
